The joy was immense to finish a tough travel year with a jewel. A โ€˜Jewel of the Nileโ€™ one could say.

Luxor

And it turned out to be one. Starting with staying at the fabulous Winter Palace (an iconic building from the Belle-Epoque Era) located alongside the Nile to the incomparable sights of ancient Egypt. A bonus was owed to the pandemic seeing almost no crowds, no waiting times and no tourist walking into the photos. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Another bonus was the many fold restaurant scene in Luxor at very affordable prices.ย

After Luxor and overnight stays in the desert forbidden we decided make a short stint to Cairo. The ride (we had a private tour guide) was very long and dotted by dozens of tourist security checks. We were rewarded with, yet again, empty sites at Giza and old town Cairo at night, a great insider tip.

Giza/Cairo

After many hours in the car we enjoyed a few lazy days in Hurghada where besides nice beaches ordinary Egyptian life still exists.
