Trieste, the gateway to Slovenia and Croatia. Its location at the crossroads of Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures, belonging to the Habsburg Monarchy ย from 1382 until 1918 being its most important seaport. This history can be seen at every step and the mix of cultures make it a great experience for the culinary interested as well literature and music. As a result, present-day Trieste boasts many cafes, and is still known to this day as โ€œthe coffee capital of Europeโ€.ย

The most prominent landmark is the Faro della Vittoria,ย an active victorian lighthouse, overseeing the entire Bay of Trieste.

Croatia

Just a couple of hours involving a scenic drive brings you to Plitvice Lakes N.P. Early Fall colors and great weather made this a great experience seeing the clarity of the lakes nested in a beautiful surrounding. A great surprise was an outstanding meal in the evening at very attractive prices.ย

Further drive over the Croatian heartland with fantastic views of karst landscapes and islands brought us to the island of Cres, a great place to be at this time of the year avoiding the Summer crowds.
