Tajikistan facts

Squeezed in between by mountains and neighbours, Tajikistan is probably the Central Asian country which has more development ahead of itself than any other. The territory is divided by huge mountain ranges which make up for more than 80%. One can find huge disparities between remote villages and mountain areas and the fast developing and growing capital Dushanbe.

Fan Mountains and Iskander-Kul

An easy one hour drive from Samarkand to the border and fast crossing. Soon, actually on the way to the capital, a side valley cuts in the Fan mountains  and offers beautiful views over Iskander-Kul Lake (Alexander Lake) where locals and tourist enjoy fresh and cool air in breathtaking environment. On the way many insight to local rural life can be grasped.

Dushanbe

Once of the high pass and on a decent road (built by the Chinese, who else) Dushanbe is a special place. Dotted with monument from their independence in 1991, sprawling suburbs and Soviet architecture, the centre is one huge construction site changing very fast and showcasing the wealth of a small elite with plenty of very expensive western luxury cars, exclusive new shop with and modern apartment building. A must see!
