WSET Diploma Block Session 2 ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡น

November, 2021

After the summer and our first exam in the Spring it was time for the next block session. It was again an intense week of studies and tasting training, 3 exams for those who wanted to take all three of them, and luckily a few events around all of itย

One highlight was the invitation to attend a tasting at Esterhazy Palace in nearby Eisenstadt. Unter the title “The Rothschild world of wine” we got to taste wines from some of their vineyards around the world including their famous Chateau Lafitte.

Another excursion included a tasting panel of sweet wines from Austria followed by lunch and winery tour around the town of Deutschkreutz, one of the best regions for Blaufrรคnkisch. I had the please to be a guest at J. Heinrich winery. Sylvia Heinrich, owner and winemaker, first brought us into the beautiful vineyards with fall colors before more tasting in her winery and shop. Thank you so much, that was awesome and I enjoyed the wines very much and I now am a loyal Blaufrรคnkisch fan.

And of course social life played a good part as well as we get to know each other better. Another big thank you also goes to the son of ย E.T. winery (Ernst Triebaumer including great Blaufrรคnkisch amongst others) who is located in the town of Rust and giving us asylum more than once into there underground winery cellar where we got to drink (not just taste as it was in the evening) and also were not impacted by the early closing time of the local restaurants.

We also arranged joint tasting training session the night before the exams D4 Sparkling Wines and D5 Fortified Wines which was very helpful and great fun. And last but not least we threw a great party after the exams with some late night dancing (in an Airbnb!).

After the block seminar some of us went to Vienna and enjoyed another fun night at restaurant and wine bar Klemo. This is a great place for wine lovers as it boasts a huge selection through the nearby wine story with thousands of entries at ver fairy prices.
