The Provence has been on my travel list for many years but in pre-corona times was on the lower end as more exotic destinations lured.

This year it was an easy choice as besides the landscape and lifestyle together with those famous lavender fields I had one more important reason to go. As I have started my next level of wine education for WSET Level 4 and Weinakademiker and the RhΓ΄ne valley together with the Provence form and important part of that, I was able to combine both interests.

As you can see the lavender fields were in perfect condition, some just before or during harvest. I visited a good number of wine locations being some of the well known but also focussing on the lesser known such as Beaumes-the-Venise, Vacqueyras or the Durance just to name a few. I visited again a lot of supermarkets and specialty wines stores to see their offering which was very helpful as well.

Yet last but not least I enjoyed the legendary “provence summer” with high temperatures and the beautiful landscape in the countryside as well as the towns and cities, not to forget the culinary side of it all.Β
